Arsenal need to keep an eye on the January Sales. Historically, Wenger has been active at this time purchasing Reyes, Eboue and Walcott, but I'm not sure if he has the cash to splash this time around.
In my view he should be getting rid of Aliadiere and adding depth in the following places:
Left back, defensive midfielder, right and left wing.
He should also be looking for a long-term replacement for Lehmann, with Akinfeev as my choice to fill the German's boots.
The Gunners have been linked with moves for Gareth Bale, Curtus Davies, Ashley Young and Nigel Reo-Coker. My views on those transfers are as follows:
Gareth Bale: I haven't seen much of him but the buzz around him is quite positive. It looks like the Gunners need another left back, but the money being talked about is in the £7m region and that is too much for another untried youngster. He'll probably end up at Chelsea or Manchester United.
Curtis Davies: I don't think Arsenal need him. There is already too much competition for his position and it would demoralise the two young Swiss players if this purchase was made. He'll probably end up at Portsmouth or similar.
Ashley Young: This is one youngster that I would be pleased with. He's a dynamic player and Arsenal need to add depth to the wings as Ljungberg looks increasingly frail whilst Hleb and Rosicky are attacking midfielders and not wingers.
Nigel Reo-Coker: Another purchase that I would be very pleased with. I think that Reo-Coker would be an excellent addition to the current squad. I like how passionate he is, how vocal he is and that he likes to tackle people. He's just what Arsenal need and he would be the long-term replacement for Gilberto. I concede that Diaby has the potential to fulfill this role but he's recovering from a serious injury and is largely unproven, the West ham captain isn't.
